by Penny

I am married, live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my two Miniature Pinschers and an Amazon Parrot. Luckily my husband doesn't mind living with a creative woman...he never knows what will be changed or added when he comes home!

I can remember being creative all my life. Both of my grandmothers and my mother are all really creative women so it was natural that I would follow in their paths. I learned to crochet at age 11 from my Nonna and everything else from my mom and Grandmother. My Mom and I still go to numerous craft events and classes when we can, we have a blast!

I always had a crafting class weather it was wood working, metal shop, arts and crafts or sewing all throughout my school years. I started selling on Etsy after my shoulder therapist said that beading would be good therapy for my carpal tunnel. So after accumulating numerous earrings and bracelets Bling N Things by Penny was started. A girl can only wear so much jewelry, lol.

I have since expanded to selling my Scrapbooks, Journals, Jewelry Boxes as well as my Jewelry. I never know what I'll be in the mood to create and I love the idea that I can share my items with people all over the world. When I had my first sale I was so excited as I am with every sale there after and the first international sale I was scared to death that it wouldn't make it there, lol.

Since then I have become a leader on the wonderful STAT (Self Taught Artists Treasury) Team where I have made friends with some really talented people who are also so very supportive!

My name is Sophie Davies, I live in Kent and I make minimal, modern jewellery.

I have a shop on Etsy which has been open since 2010 and I have had a Bigcartel store for the last few months. I have been making jewellery for the last eighteen months or so. I hardly wear jewellery because I like things to be super minimal, rarely is there anything that appeals to me; tiny, delicate pieces, extremely lightweight and lovely to look at, which is what I hope to create.

Advice for new designer-makers:
Make mistakes and learn from them.
Be nice to people.
Work hard.

"I love stitching and teaching stitching. Counted thread needlework appeals to my logical mind and soothes my soul. Cross stitch, hardanger, drawn thread, and especially band samplers. I knit when I'm not stitching."

by TJBdesigns

My passion is counted thread needlework. Most people think of cross stitch when I say that and that is how it all started for me almost 40 years ago. You can see some of my favorite pieces here. www.flickr.com/photos/tjbdesigns/sets/72157623357380512/ Stitching is my therapy, but I love to knit too. I teach a stitching group at my local needlework shop.

Several years ago I decided to make scissor fobs for the ladies in my group. So I picked up some beads and other supplies and it became an obsession. I needed about eight gifts, but by the time I was done I had over two dozen! So I started selling them to friends. The owner of our local needlework shop asked me to make some stitch markers. Then I noticed some of my stitch group had trouble keeping their place in their projects. So I started making counting pins. And so it goes…

I firmly believe every needleworker should have pretty tools. So I make pretty and practical beaded scissor fobs, sewing stilettos, counting pins for needlepoint and cross stitch, stitch markers for knitting and crochet, needle threaders and needlecases. I make eyeglass leashes for those of us who still want to stitch, but need a little visual help. And when you’re tired of stitching and knitting, I make bookmarks to keep your spot in that trashy novel.
