My journey as a photographer came forth out of both a love of art and a desire to overcome personal tragedy. About ten years ago, I had been working as a music journalist and photographer when I experienced a violent crime at the hands of a stranger. It proved to be a life-changing event. As part of healing from the trauma, I sought ways to see tangibly the beauty still present in the world. I challenged myself to capture with my camera the extraordinary hiding within the ordinary all around me. But, it proved to be a wonderful surprise to realize just how abundant beauty is in the world.

Currently living in Brooklyn, NY, I especially savor taking photos of cityscapes, landscapes and flowers/nature. In 2009, I launched ShootLikeAGirlPhotography.com and began offering 8"x10" and 11"x14" matted prints of my work. Soon after, I started a line of greeting cards featuring my photos professionally mounted on high quality linen paper. I frequently have exhibits in and around NYC and look forward to continuing to grow in my work. There is always something new to discover-- and take pictures of!

 I would say that my work is diverse. I enjoy photographing nature and wildlife, sports, people, cities, close-ups….you name it! Having fallen in love with photography during the film and darkroom days, I was initially rather skeptical about digital photography. Now I completely embrace it and I see opportunities for creativity that didn’t exist before the digital era.


 I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Fortunately, this area is rich in photographic subjects (i.e. beautiful landscapes, historic covered bridges, etc.). Additionally, I am fairly close to New York and Philadelphia, so I try to capture iconic images of these cities. I capitalize on the fact that my middle-aged body tends to wake up rather early, and I take my camera, tripod, and a mug of coffee to capture the beautiful morning light. In addition to my photography, I am a clinical psychologist. My two fields intersect as I pay particular attention to mood, unique perspectives, alternative vantage points, as well as what to include and what to exclude.

Hi everyone! My name is Rielly Karsh Modd (still working on all that name changing paperwork over two years later … oops). I am a mostly self taught photographer and artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Somehow my wonderful husband manages to find space for himself in our tiny apartment amidst all my cameras, lights and bits and pieces. Most exciting of all, we are about to have our first baby any day now and we absolutely cannot wait to meet her!


Opening a shop on Etsy was a complete career change for me but photography is my one consistent passion (outside of my family) and I have been pursuing it for as long as I can remember. My goal when shooting is to capture what is beautiful in the everyday ordinary world and to translate what I see when I look at the world into something people can relate to and appreciate.

My inspiration comes from my earliest memories. I grew up in a very rural area and that is where I cultivated my love of nature, animals and all things outdoors. We were always doing something crafty or going on nature walks with our little Audubon field guides to identify plants, birds, trees and whatever else we could find.

Recently I decided to change my shop around and focus entirely on my photography so I went ahead and opened a second shop (www.RLFNest.etsy.com) to showcase my other artistic endeavors. I am also in the process of opening a pet photography business, although I have been massively sidetracked by this whole being pregnant business!

My favorite quote is from Mark Twain and it is something that I strive to keep in mind at all times, but especially when I have to make difficult decisions: “Why not go out on a limb? That’s where the fruit is.”

My name is Ashley Ziemianski; I'm a 23 year old recent graduate living in Metro Detroit, Michigan. My entire life, I've never known what I've wanted to do "when I grew up." It would change all the time, and I never knew how to even go about doing most of the things I thought of (glad I didn't stick with the "Scientist" route - sorry about the bleached carpet, Dad!)

I only recently realized what the things I loved to do most were! I never even thought twice about the time I spend making graphics or taking photos; and I definitely never thought about selling my paintings.

I currently live with my boyfriend in his parents' old home. We have spent the last year modifying the entire home into something that we both enjoy. Neither of us consider it even close to "being there," but at least -we- know how much hard work has gone in so far.

The biggest bonus to this transition is my office! I've been a design student for over three years, and only after I graduated did I finally get a solid workspace. While I still do all of my messy painting outside (on the front porch), everything else happens right here in my orange-walled room! I probably spend 90% of my day there now that I'm unemployed and trying to make my hobbies into my day job...

 

As photographed, I have lots of storage (but it's actually still not enough). The space is constantly evolving - even though this photo was taken July 15, the room is already a little different. I have lots of "containers" for markers, pens, scissors, paper, pencils, blades, etc.

One tip: don't go with solid lime green curtains. I really want pink ones instead.



As a new Etisian, I'm still learning all the tips and tricks... However, I must say that I'm in love with Google Analytics, Craftopolis.com, and Craftcult.com! I am also constantly blogging, which through things like Twitterfeed.com and NetworkedBlogs, are automatically published to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. I have also set up the ability to post from my Flickr to my blog and Twitter. It's a giant loop, but you have to CONSTANTLY promote your shop!

Hello, my name is Erin and I'm a slightly OCD 19-year-old who designs her own jewelry. Some other activities I love are reading scary novels, macro photography, playing video games with my fiance and learning Japanese. I'm taking jewelry design classes at my local community college so I can add new techniques and ideas to my shop often.

My jewelry is inspired by many things, from abstract art to poetry to aquatic plant life. I also like to play around with different combinations of gemstones and wire wrapping designs.

 I create my pieces either in my art studio at school or while sitting crosslegged on my bedroom floor with beads and tools strewn all around me. :)

Hello! My name is Elisa, and I am a recently engaged 32 year old lover of nature, traveling, textures, animals, great food, baking, and a strong cup of coffee! I'm an Ohio native, but I've also lived in Michigan, Florida, and Missouri. I adore photographing nature - especially birds and tree bark.

 I create my photo collages by cutting up my own photography into pieces and arranging them to form a scene. I actually create my art in my dining room! There's an alcove where I keep my laminator and supplies, as well as anything else that inspires me.

I hold a Bachelor's in Vocal Performance with a Minor in Art from Western Michigan University. I currently work as a Hairstylist.

I began art studies at a young age, and have been experimenting with art processes and media ever since. During the time I was pursuing my photography based art degree I witnessed meteoric changes within the photographic world. While the once commanding darkroom was being replaced by the newest computer lab, prosperous photography businesses were closing their doors forever.

I both embraced and questioned the digital world photography was being assimilated into. I delved further into the basic concepts of photography; where it came from, what it meant, and where it was going. Pondering the root words photo meaning light and graph meaning to write, I began exploring the concept of literally writing with light. I developed various methods of painting using light on photosensitive paper, and designed a tool for this purpose. A US patent is pending for both the tool and process by which I create. I couple cutting edge technology with the most archaic of photographic processes, blending painting and photography, creating art with an innovative medium. Spending summers in Portland, Oregon and winters in Bend, Oregon, I live with my husband, Tony, and our dog, Syan. I own and operate Lux Art LLC and teach photography at Central Oregon Community College.

Gorgeous Photography

I have been wanting to organize my clip art and archive my art for some time now. It was getting out of control and using up way to much space on my computer. After a few hours of saving and double checking, I think that I have finally accomplished the task. It feels great to have it organized and safely saved on CD's. Now the trick is to keep it updated? What are your favourite tricks for saving your photos? Any great organization tips? I'd love to hear from you.

I've been doing photography for 6 years and wedding photography for 2 years. I LOVE it but I have a regular full time job so I have to cram it all in when i can in my off time. I used to only shoot film for a while but now i shoot digital because of weddings and portraits but I still love a good Holga or poloroid camera. The beach here provides a wonderful place for pictures. I am aspiring to be able to do it as my only job one day and it's slowly but surely coming. I love Etsy and it has provided a great community to me if nothing else. I have learned so much through Etsians and received motivation from their work. I just work at home at my dining room table at the moment- maybe I'll have an office one day. With pictures you need to be really organized and I have become a fan of Picasa for that, an external hard drive, and well organized CD case. You just have to see what works for you because everyone's workflow is different. I'll probably be changing mine for a while as well.

Viewing The World From A Different Perspective

Creating is a reflective process. It often begins with inspiration and ends in a new appreciation of the process. Sometimes creating is emotional and leaves one feeling empowered or drained depending on the type of impact creating that work had. It is through the creative process that artists share a little piece of themselves. Viewing the creation often asks others to look at things from a different perspective. Sometimes we view the piece and resonate quite loudly with acceptance and approval. There are also pieces that engage us to really think about the artist's perspective and how it relates to our own sense of reality and life. I'm a photographer that lives in Miami. I had studied photography when I was in school, but it kind of lost focus for me as time went by. A couple of months ago I was able to attend several gallery showings and art gallery debuts and my interest was immediately sparked. I decided to get back into photography and have slowly been building up my collection.

Why did I choose photography? Well, when I'm out taking pictures I am able to slow down and relax while having the ability to share my thoughts, ideas and emotions with people, and this is all accomplished through a simple photograph. It also allows me to open the minds of people so that they can view the world from a different perspective, one that is unique and interesting.

I'm a photographer, who lives and works in New York City. I work freelance, so a lot of my time is spent in front of the computer marketing, working on images etc. While I'd much rather be outside working, I find myself more and more needing to be here doing my thing.I'm a very unorganized guy, but I hate it when I wake up, get a cup of coffee and sit down to papers, flashcards, and general clutter all over my desk!My wife and I had the desk "ends" built so that we can store our files, receipts, CD's, and DVD's, etc. down below. We also put up cubes on the wall to put all of our items, that generally find themselves on top of the desk up, and out of the way!
